School Governance

A. Fantis School is governed by the School Board, which operates under the authority of the Board of Trustees of Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral.

The Board and School Committee collaborate to set policies, support the school principal, undertake strategic planning, evaluate the performance of the school and lead financial support of the school.

Dr. Katherine Tsamasiros

School Committee Chair
Dr. Katherine Tsamasiros is the Senior IT Governance Officer for the New York City Department of Education’s Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT). Past pedagogical positions at NYCDOE included District 20 Instructional Technology Director and professional developer. Katherine started her career as a fine art and technology teacher in a middle school in Brooklyn. Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University working with doctoral students. Katherine holds a doctoral degree in Instructional Technology and Media from Teachers College, Columbia University. Katherine has New York State certifications in K-12 Art Education and School District Administrator. Additionally, she is Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) from ISACA, and has ITIL Foundation Certification. Katherine is a long-standing parishioner of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral community and member of the A. Fantis School Committee.

Dean Paravalos, Parent '12, '15

Dean has been part of the community since his baptism, with strong ties to both the church and school. His children, Nicholas and Angelique, are A. Fantis alumni and he has been married to our beloved PreK-3 Teacher, Ms. Patty, for nearly 30 years. Dean graduated from Carson Long Military Academy and works for Volmar construction as a project manager and owner representative for new construction affordable housing throughout New York City. After completing his first term as Board of Trustees President in 2015, Dean has decided to serve again to give back to the beloved community.

Harry Paloumbis, Fantis ‘82

Harry has served as President of the Community since 2016. He married Athanasia Poulos, his Fantis classmate since kindergarten. Harry attended Edward R. Murrow high school, as well as Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy at LIU. Together with Athanasia, he raised three children, all of whom have been part of the Sts Constantine and Helen Community since their baptism. His three children have participated in both JOY and GOYA, and volunteer during the annual festival. Their two sons followed in their father’s footsteps as they to serve the altar on Sundays and holidays.

Constantine Vassilakos, Fantis ‘71

Constantine “Dino” Vassilakos is an A. Fantis alumni of the graduating class of 1971, along with fellow board member, Jim Tampakis. He has served dutifully on the Church Board of Trustees since 1989, during which time he has held various positions, such as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and currently Assistant Treasurer. Dino currently works in real estate management.

Jim Tampakis, Fantis ‘71

Jim was a student at Fantis on its opening day in 1963 and graduated in 1971. He went to American Community High School in Athens Greece and obtained his Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Baruch. Jim has been President of Marine Spares, an international shipping parts supplier, for several decades. Jim joined the Church Board in 1982, and was married in the Cathedral the following year. Jim and his wife have three daughters, all Fantis graduates, one of whom recently wed in the Cathedral as well. He joined the School Board Member in 1988 and co-chaired the Anniversary Committee to celebrate the churches 100th and school’s 50th anniversary events in 2013. One day soon, he believes they are going to say “get rid of the old dog.”

Kristiana Poulon, Fantis ‘06

Kristiana Poulon, Fantis Class of ‘06, is an ENL (English as a New Learner) teacher at PS 102 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Her value of Greek heritage and language inspired her to obtain a Masters Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Her elementary years at A. Fantis have allowed her to emulate those valued teaching practices into her Kindergarten and Second grade classrooms. Kristiana has deep roots in community as her mother, Ms. Yvette Poulon, is also a graduate of A. Fantis (’79) and has been the Physical Education Teacher at Fantis for almost 15 years. Kristiana currently serves as a member of the Board of The Trustees at Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral and the Fantis School Committee. Kristiana recently wed Stelios Neonakis, Fantis Class of ’02.

Daniel Hunt, Parent '21, '24, '28

Dan was born and raised in a San Francisco suburb, where he wore a uniform as a parochial school student until the 8th grade.  He received a degree in economics and mathematics from another Christian institution, Santa Clara University, in 1997.  While working in the United Kingdom in the field of investment finance, he met his bride-to-be, Andromachi (Maola) Karasoula.  Dan and Maola were married in St. Nicholas church in Glyfada, Greece in 2007, and have three children, all current students at A. Fantis.  He is a Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Construction at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.  Dan became a School Board member this year and is excited to give back to an institution and a community that shares his values and has been supportive and welcoming to his family from the start.

Harry Karamitopoulos, Parent '28

Harry, for the past 6 years, as served as the President and CEO of Modicum, a digital agency specializing in B2B creative services supporting some of the world’s largest brands including Google, Merck, Samsung, and Deloitte. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA in Finance from Temple University’s Fox School of Business.  Harry was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and is a native Greek speaker.  He resides in Brooklyn and has been a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen community for the past 7 years with his wife Mara, and their two children, Melina (age 9) and Constantine (age 5) have attended A. Fantis School since 2013.

Deidre Robokos, Parent '22

Deidre Robokos is currently employed as a litigation attorney in the Washington, DC office of Bonner, Kiernan, et al.  She earned her J.D. with an Environmental Certificate from Pace University School of Law in 2000 in the evening program and was a visiting student for two years at Georgetown University of Law Center while clerking for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia.  Deidre is a parent of an A. Fantis Middle School Student and has served as president of the PTO of A. Fantis.

Peter G. Passias, Parent '26, '29, '31

Peter grew up in Flushing in the community of Saint Nicholas.  Since returning to New York from his Education in Boston, Peter has worked at New York University as Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Orthropaedic Surgery for eight years.  He is also Chief of Complex Spinal Surgery and the Director of Research at his private practice at the New York Spine Institute.  He is considered an international leader in this field and has over 400 publications and over 1,000 presentations, and as authored numerous textbooks that are considered authorities in his discipline.  He holds an M.D., a Ph.D. in Medicine and Mechanical Engineering focusing on Biomechanics of the Spine.  Peter and his family have been members of the Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral community for the past 7 years and his three sons are students at A. Fantis School.
