Pre-school

The Pre-school Program at A. Fantis Parochial School comprises:

Pre-K 3: one class of 18 three year olds, full day (8.30am-2.15pm)

Pre-K 4: two classes of 19 four year olds, half day (8.30am-11.15am, 11.30am-2.15pm)

UPK: two classes of 19 four year olds, half day (hours as per Pre-K 4)

The UPK (or Universal Pre-K) program is a pre-kindergarten program implemented by the New York City Department of Education. It is a half-day program, and it is free of charge.

The A. Fantis pre-kindergarten program for four year olds consists of five half days of UPK, combined with five half days of Pre-K 4.

In our Pre-school, the sessions are divided into periods of child-initiated structured play complemented by adult-led activities. We teach children how to work, play, co-operate with others, and function in a group beyond the family.  We enrich the children's learning experiences by planning meaningful, fun and relevant experiences.

Young children vary considerably in their stages of development. A 9:1 student/teacher ratio allows progress through the curriculum to be tailored to meet each individual child's needs.

Housed within light and airy classrooms on a separate floor of the same building as the Lower and the Middle School, our pre-schoolers are able to benefit from use of the library, gymnasium, and rooftop playground.
