Lower School: K-3
In the Lower School, there is a strong emphasis on reading, writing and numeracy. Our aim is to give the children a solid foundation of knowledge, understanding and skills.
We aim to develop a sense of independence, to instill confidence and to develop social skills, as well as to encourage children to explore and question the world around them.
We also aim to enable our children to begin to develop attitudes and values which will lead them to become happy and responsible adults.
In the Lower School, there is one class per grade, with the class size limited to 18 students.
Students are taught by their class teachers, with specialist teachers for Greek Language, Music, Physical Education and Religious Studies.
The New York State Education Curriculum is largely followed in the Lower School. In Grade 3, all students take the New York State Examinations in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
For an introductory outline of the curricula studied, please see the subject-matter pages in this section.
More detailed curricula for each grade are available directly from the school.
