Faculty Principal: Dr. Alice B. Farkouh

Dr. Alice Farkouh’s passion for teaching began in 1967 at Port Richmond High School.

After teaching at Port Richmond High School, she became an Assistant Principal of Mathematics at Prospect Heights and Curtis High School. She was one of a handful of women in the New York City Board of Education to become a High School Assistant Principal of Mathematics.

Twenty years after starting her career as a high school mathematics teacher, in 1989, she became the first woman to be appointed principal of her alma mater, Fort Hamilton High School, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Dr. Farkouh’s 10-year tenure there was marked by the school’s return to academic excellence.

After working at Poly Prep Country Day School as the Head of the Upper School, she spent a brief time at Adelphi Academy as its Headmistress, and five years as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Mathematics at The College of Staten Island. On March 15, 2006, she took the position of principalship at A. Fantis Parochial School.

With more than 40 years’ experience in the New York City school system, Dr. Farkouh is recognized as a respected and innovative educator. She has received numerous honors and awards, of recent note an award in 2006 from the Borough President of Brooklyn for her leadership and accomplishments.

Dr. Farkouh holds two Masters Degrees, in Mathematics Education, and in Supervision and Administration. These were followed by a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
